The Arm Sling & Abductor Pillow may be used after:
- Rotator cuff or similar operations,
- Some dislocations,
- Subluxation,
- Strains etc.
Your medical adviser normally recommends and fits this Sling. The Arm Sling & Abductor Pillow abducts the arm at approximately 15°.
Key Features
It consists of:
- A breathable Air-Mesh Sling with a velour pocket on each side to hold mobile phone, shopping list, tissues, keys, etc.
- An Air-Mesh Abductor Pillow
- Padded shoulder and waist straps
- Two Velcro-on 'Please Do Not Touch' signs to remind people not to touch the sore shoulder or arm
- A plastic Waist Strap Positioning Stick
Additional Information
Normally the Sling is fitted after surgery by the health professional while the Patient is still asleep. Otherwise, below is a general guide:
- Place the Patient’s arm in the Sling with the elbow fully back in the Sling. The thumb loop can be adjusted to size.
- Take the Shoulder Strap from the wrist area over the unaffected shoulder, across the back and down through the plastic D-Ring next to the elbow, adjusting to size.
- Place the Abductor Pillow under the Sling so it is held in position by the Hook & Loop Tape fastening. The surgeon will decide if the bulbous end is to be in front or beside the chest.
- Use the Waist Strap Positioning Stick to gently slide the Waist Strap under the small of the Patient’s back to secure the Sling around the Patient’s waist. The Hook Tape should be on the outside. The wrist section can be opened for inspection by undoing one of the Hook & Loop tags. If the Patient does not need to support their wrist, the front section can be folded back.
If you notice any reactions such as swelling or pain, immediately contact your medical adviser.
