Description

The Extended Leg Board is designed to support an extended leg and is normally used in a wheelchair. Made from a strong plastic that is easy to wipe clean to help with infection control, this plastic is virtually maintenance-free and will not splinter. The webbing straps can be removed for washing or replacing if necessary.

Key Features

  • The Board can be used for either the left or right leg.
  • Available in Adult, Amputee, and Child sizes, with shorter lengths for easier manoeuvrability.
  • Extended Leg Board - Leg Cushions (sold separately) provide additional protection under the leg and heel.

Additional Information

Note: As the Adult size Extended Leg Board (Item #529) is considered an oversized item, customers from outside of Australia should contact us before placing an order so that we can provide an accurate shipping cost.

To Fit to a Wheelchair: Place the Board on the Chair. Ensure the Extended Leg section will be on the left or right side as required. Then do up the 25mm / 1" red straps at the rear chair frame, wrapping it around the frame, before doing up the buckle.

There are another two slots at the front of the sitting section, used if needed on a wheelchair when the rear straps do not keep the board in place. These may be needed to restrain the patient's thighs. If they are needed, another set of straps can be purchased by contacting Pelican. Once the patient is sitting down with their leg on the extended section, the Leg Strap can be done up to keep the leg in position.

Weight Testing: There is no standard for this product, and we are aware that any testing we do does not account for individual people's weight distribution, shape, and size. For our own 'in-house' testing, we placed a total of 96.1kg / 211.9lbs on a wheelchair seat section of the Board and three weights totalling 41.9kg / 92.3lbs on the Extended Leg Section of the board. After 30 minutes, the extended section of the Board bent down so the top edge was 19cm / 7.5" from the floor. After removing the weights, the board resumed to being straight again.

Cleaning

Remove the Extended Leg Board from the chair and wipe clean with a hospital-grade disinfectant. The webbing straps can be removed, so even the inside of the webbing slots can be wiped clean. The webbing straps can be washed up to 80°C (176°F). Air or tumble dry on a cool setting, ensuring the drum is cool. Ensure the product is dry before using or storing.

Important

Warning: When wheeling a patient with a long or heavy leg or when going up or down a kerb, the extended length of the Board may spring up and down if the wheelchair is going too fast. Do not let children or adults sit on the Leg Extension.

General Manual Handling Warning: Manual handling products are designed to assist carers to help patients. They will not make the carer stronger or fitter, but with correct training and use of the products, should make manual handling easier and safer for both staff and patients. Always select the most appropriate equipment for the patient’s current condition and if in doubt, use mechanical equipment.
