Description

The Heel & Footdrop Bed Support is designed to help prevent pressure on the heels while providing essential footdrop support. Made from foam with a polycotton cover, it should be placed on the bed so the patient's heels are over the gap at the base of the upright footdrop rest. This product is particularly useful in preventing hyper-extension of the knee and foot rotation.

Key Features

  • Helps prevent pressure on the heels
  • Provides footdrop support
  • Anti-Rotation Foot Strap also available

Additional Information

Note the convoluted section of foam extends under the legs to beyond the knees. The two side struts should be held in position by the Hook & Loop Tape straps. The bed clothes rest on top of the Support, above the toes, to stop extra pressure on the feet, helping prevent footdrop and rotation of the feet.

If the feet are rotating, we recommend the Anti-Rotation Foot Strap (sold separately) that can be fitted onto the Heel & Footdrop Bed Support. These soft elasticised straps are easy to use and can be fitted to individual needs.

When putting the Support on the bed, it can normally be resting against the bed's foot board, or if used with a very short person, a pillow can be placed between the Heel & Footdrop Bed Support and the foot board. Another method of securing the Heel & Footdrop Bed Support is to tuck the top sheet underneath it or tie a ribbon from the two side loops to the bed frame.

As the lower legs and feet are slightly raised, you may find this product helpful in preventing Oedema. Even when patients are lying on their side, the soft convoluted foam helps prevent heel pressure. This product can be used on top of a Pressure Relief Overlay Mattress (sold separately). If the patient is likely to soil the product, we suggest a waterproof cover is placed over the convoluted leg section to prevent the foam from getting wet. This product can also be used to 'shorten the bed' for patients who may slide down the bed.

FAQs

Why use convoluted foam under the lower legs?
The convoluted foam is beneficial for pressure care and air circulation. As the patient moves their legs every now and then, the convolutions will be in different areas under the legs which is also beneficial.
