Macrogol is a PEG-high molecular weight polymer which is non-toxic, pharmacologically inert, and virtually unabsorbed. The macrogol attracts and holds water in the bowel for effective stool softening. The electrolytes in MOVICOL help mitigate the possibility of electrolyte imbalance and dehydration.

Warnings

Do not take MOVICOL Chocolate if your doctor has told you that you have:

• an obstruction in your intestine (gut)
• a perforated gut wall
• severe inflammatory bowel disease, like ulcerative colitis, Crohn's disease, or toxic megacolon
• paralysis of the bowel
• an allergy to macrogol or any of the ingredients.

MOVICOL Chocolate is for use in adults and children aged 12 years and over. The MOVICOL Junior range is available for children between 2 and 11 years of age.

The fluid content of MOVICOL when re-constituted with water does not replace regular fluid intake and adequate fluid intake must be maintained.

Laxative products such as Movicol have the potential to interact with other medications, by altering their absorption. Close monitoring of the effects of the medications may be necessary when patient starts or stops taking Movicol regularly. It is important that the patient should discuss this with the doctor.

If the patient is pregnant talk to the doctor before taking Movicol.

If the patient needs to thicken fluids in order to swallow them safely, Movicol may counteract the effect of the thickener.

Movicol Chocolate also contains chocolate flavour, and acesulfame potassium as a sweetener. The chocolate flavour includes maltodextrin, acacia gum, vegetable oils and fats, propylene glycol, benzyl alcohol and sulfites. Contains 187 mg of sodium and 26 mg of potassium. Contains 14.1 mg of benzyl alcohol.
